General Membership Benefits & Responsibilities
At the RCD Youth Group, we believe that a high level of participation in the Youth Group has its unique privileges. There are no membership dues at the General Membership level. General Members receive the quarterly YEA Newsletter by mail or email, communications of Youth Group news and to participate in Youth Group activities, training opportunities, socializing functions, and invitations to community events.
Youth Group General Members enjoy the following benefits:
- Joining activities, outings, discussions, reflections, training, forums and events of your choice
- Participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Challenge, supported by the RCD YEA Project
- Consistent access to skill training, personal development and community resources
- Opportunity to actively participate in guiding the direction of the RCD Youth Group by joining the Youth Council Membership
- Invitation to join peer-sharing and strategic planning meetings specifically developed to provide supports to youth with disabilities
RCD Youth Group stresses the importance of participation of members with a goal to be more engaging in community or be more active in their personal life, as well as the leadership that members can bring to the Youth Group in areas such as networking, information sharing and community development. We ask that our General Members commit to the following:
- Participate in the Youth Group activities and be involved with the group as much as you can. The Youth Group offers regular gatherings and will communicate to members frequently. The three current involvements are Youth Council, Peer Support and Leadership, and General Membership participation
- Strong consideration of and proactive efforts toward civic engagement
- Spread the words about the Youth Group and its work to your social circle
- Willingness to take on a leadership role in the Youth Group, when possible. All participation is voluntary, and we rely on the commitment and effort of members to operate
- Support of Youth Group activities through volunteering and/or participation
